The Ibanez SRH500F Fretless Bass is a modern solution that gives bassists access to the fretless feel and the sound of an upright bass with the contours and playability of a solid-body bass. Featured is a 55mm thick, semi hollow, chambered body, which has been sculpted from mahogany. This design offers the warmth and resonance required to produce an airy quality of tone. Its neck has been mounted to the body with an exceptionally ergonomic sculpted heel and is enough to enable the most technically demanding of playing styles. This model features some incredible electronics, including the AeroSilk piezo. This bridge-integrated pickup works specifically with Flatwound strings and lets you recreate the tonality of a 4-string upright bass. The Ibanez SR range has been designed to blend smooth playability with quality electronics and hardware at a range of price points. This is a special series, created to offer a range of unique combinations of specifications in order to meet more specialised requirements. The SRH semi-hollow fuses the SR series’ ergonomic feel with a unique bass workshop idea, producing the sound of an upright bass instrument.
A wide range of tonal possibilities
A unique feature of this bass is its AeroSilk piezo system, featuring a custom bridge and a piezo pickup for a truly acoustic sound. This system provides the SRH500F with an airy characteristic of an upright bass. Alongside this system is a volume and tone control for excellent sound shaping and balance.
Comfortable and efficient design
This model has been sculpted with a lightweight mahogany, elegant contours, and a smooth design, all in which combine to create an incredibly comfortable instrument. On top of this, this incredible tonewood delivers sweet and warm tonal characteristics. This Ibanez also features a smooth cutaway profile, allowing easier access to the higher frets. Thanks to this, you can perform with an excellent flexibility across the entire fingerboard.
Effortless playability
The SRH500F’s neck has been sculpted from a combination of jatoba and walnut, creating an incredibly bright and smooth tone, packed with an excellent sustain and stability. When these stunning tonewoods are paired, you are provided with a range of stunning tonal qualities and sonic enhancements, as well as amazing aesthetics.
On top of this sits a panga panga fingerboard, adding an excellent response with an added layer of brightness, whilst its bound edges allow for a smooth playability. This fingerboard is fretless, providing a unique tone that fretless versions can’t achieve. By removing the frets, each of the strings can vibrate more freely and interact directly with the panga panga. This setup also ensures your hand can glide effortlessly down the fingerboard. Whilst this design is mostly used for jazz and funk, this bass can work with a range of musical style.
