The Porter & Davies BC2 Tactile Monitoring System is an advanced monitoring system which provides drummers and musicians with tactile feedback of low-end frequencies and sounds whilst on stage, in the studio, or during practice. Once connected to a microphone (not included) via XLR, the BC2 System utilises bone conduction transmission technology to transfer the low-frequency sounds picked up by the microphone to the player, through the throne seat. The BC2 ensures that users can hear and feel every single beat, kick, or bass sound throughout their session, without creating any audible external sounds. The BC2 Monitoring System is available with a range of throne styles, allowing musicians to select the ideal seat for their needs.
Despite being originally designed for drummers, Porter & Davies Monitoring Systems have since become an essential for other musicians and instrumentalists. Amongst others, keyboard and cello are examples of instruments which have been played whilst using P&D systems. With virtually limitless possibilities for use within any musical scenario, the Porter & Davies Tactile Monitoring Systems make a great addition to any stage, studio or practice setup.
In addition to sound (airborne vibrations) picked up by our eardrums, there are other ways in which acoustic energy can be perceived. Deep tissue and muscle mass (''kinesthetic''), skeletal joints (“haptic”), skin sensation (sense of touch) and bone conduction (skull to cochlea transmission) are all alternative methods of transmitting this energy to the brain, and it is through bone conduction technology that Porter & Davies systems deliver the sound and feel which every drummer has dreamed of. Bone conduction transmission is an advanced technology which can also be found in some hearing aid devices. Despite the complexity involved, the actual concept is as simple as transmitting vibrations to the skull which are then interpreted as sound, allowing you to pick up clear and accurate sounds. Using drum stools with integrated tactile generators alongside Porter & Davies monitoring systems, drummers can expect a true-to-life bass drum response, feel, and sound, no matter what audio environment they are in.
Specialising in tactile monitoring systems for drummers, Porter & Davies is a drum-hardware company who is responsible for the popular BC2, BC2rm, Gigster and KT Platform systems. Based in Sussex, UK, Porter & Davies have been developing unique and innovative monitoring systems for performing, touring, and recording drummers. Porter & Davies monitoring systems aim to overcome the issue faced by drummers around the world, which is the inability to hear and feel their own bass drum during their performance.
Systems such as the popular BC2 consist of Porter & Davies' patented drum throne top with an integrated tactile generator, alongside the monitoring system itself. All of the necessary cables are included, making it as easy as plug in and play. Porter & Davies systems put the drummer in control of the weight, feel, and sound of their bass drum, without creating any external noise or disturbance to anybody else.
Combining high-quality parts and manufacturing processes with a new and unique drumming innovation, Porter & Davies have already gained huge popularity from their collaboration with hundreds of artists and bands including Nickelback, Kasabian, Bring Me The Horizon, Bastille, You Me at Six, 5 Seconds of Summer, The Who, Sigur Rós, drummers for Drake, Ellie Goulding, One Direction, Robbie Williams, Sam Smith and many, many more. Visit the Porter & Davies website for a full list of bands and artists using the Porter & Davies range.
