Ritchie Blackmore is an English guitarist and songwriter, and known as one of the founding members of Deep Purple. Born 1945 in Somerset, Ritchie began to learn the guitar at 11 when his father bought him one under certain conditions, and later developed under the guidance of session guitarist Big Jim Sullivan. In 1968, Blackmore was invited by Chris Curtis to join his new band Deep Purple, which went on to become one of the pioneers of heavy metal. As a part of Deep Purple, Blackmore's style became heavy and psychedelic, offering an incredibly wide variety of styles and tones which helped create Deep Purples Legendary sound.
