Originally designed by car designer Ray Dietrich in the 1960s, who based the design on 1950's car tail-fins, the classic Firebird body shape provides the ultimate comfort as well as a renowned style icon. The Epiphone is beautifully crafted from solid mahogany "wings" which join to the central core of its through-neck. Mahogany is a medium-dense wood with excellent resonance and superior sustain, offering a rich, round, warm tone with plenty of high-end sheen and good midrange presence.
The Firebird’s stunning through neck is constructed from a nine-piece mahogany and walnut construction, with its unique design providing easy access to the high frets and adding extra sustain. The mahogany and walnut combination provides the Epiphone with the best of both tonewoods sonic properties, offering a combination of strong bright tones with plenty of presence in the mids. Adding a rosewood fingerboard helps expand the necks dynamic range, brightening up the high end for extra sizzle, while offering the low end plenty of depth. Its 1960's rounded c profile throws back to the necks of the 60s, providing players with a smooth vintage feel.
The Signature Firebird features a single powerful ProBucker FB720 pickup, reconstructed to the original 60s spec of Gibson’s firebird pickups, to deliver incredibly versatile tones. Built with 2 alnico II bar magnets and a DC resistance of 7.85kOhms, the Probucker delivers a incredibly clean, bright output with incredible sound sensitivity. A simple control layout is all you need to dial the perfect sound for your playing style, with a master volume and tone setup to offer incredible tonal possibilities.
