Epiphone and Peter Frampton have come together to recreate his trademark Les Paul. Peter's original Les Paul was a unique 1954 model that had been customised as a one-of-a-kind Les Paul Custom with three humbuckers. It was gifted to Frampton by Marx Mariana in 1970 after a Humble Pie concert in San Francisco.
Peter went on to use this Les Paul as his go to guitar for the studio and stage. In 1980, the Les Paul was believing to have been destroyed during an incident with the Cargo Plane that had been used to transport the bands gear.
It wasn't until 2011 that Frampton was reunited with the guitar after Donald Valentina (a curacao custom agent and amateur guitar player) had discovered it still intact. Peter then gave this guitar the nickname ''The Phenix'' - since it basically returned from the ashes.
Just like his original, the Frampton Signature Epiphone features a classic 50s Les Paul profile, crafted from a strong mahogany body and topped with a maple cap. The body also features Epiphone's weight relief, providing you with a light guitar that won't cause discomfort during long playing sessions.
The Les Paul's iconic cutaway design and smooth contours offer incredible comfort while playing. You even have excellent access to the higher frets, perfect for delivering those sweet solos and lead licks. Another great feature is the custom ''Phenix'' neck profile, which was designed to Frampton's specifications for the perfect playing comfort.
What made ''The Phenix'' such an iconic and recognisable guitar was its trio of open-coil humbuckers, which looked out of place with the classic Les Paul design. The Epiphone Custom Pro also follows this stunning setup, featuring ProBuckers in the bride and necks positions with a Ceramic PRO in between to deliver a truly versatile performance.
The two ProBuckers recreate the humbuckers found on classic Epiphones, from their historically accurate wire, winding techniques, and bobbins. They also feature the traditional alnico and ceramic magnets to offer that classic tone while still retaining clarity and dynamics. Its three-way toggle feature unique wiring, only selecting between these two pickups and completely bypassing the middle humbucker.
While you switch between the bridge and the neck pickups via the toggle switch, the middle Ceramic PRO humbucker works slightly differently - it's always on. Independent volume and tone controls lets you fine tune the Ceramic PRO, with the volume letting you choose how much to blend with the ProBuckers. Or you can mute it completely to get a classic dual humbucker setup.
