50 years ago, Jimi Hendrix took the musical world by storm with his Monterey pop festival performance. To celebrate this 50th anniversary, Fender recreated the famous hand-painted strat he used which was then burned in the fiery culmination of his set. Only living on through photos and film, this limited edition guitar delivers the same style, feel, and tone of the original, with a wide range of hardware and electronics any player will appreciate.
Jimi Hendrix's Monterey Strat features a classic alder body to produce an incredibly resonant and balanced tone, with plenty of clarity for notes to sing. The body's comfortable contours provides a smooth performance while the lightness of the tonewood ensures players don't strain their shoulders during long performances. The alder provides a decent amount of sustain, creating bright, sizzling highs, excellently rounded lows, and beefy mids. Fender have used alder as their tonewood of choice since the 1950s, as the balanced response and slight upper middle definition makes it perfect for rock and blues playing.
The Fender Guitar’s maple neck provides bright tonal characteristics, tightening up the sound and giving it plenty of cut. The maple delivers a powerfully sharp punch when the strings are hit hard, whilst still retaining its clarity to allow each note to sing. The vintage-style 7.5'' radius pau ferro fingerboard offers the same fundamental tones as a rosewood fingerboard, while the ''C'' shaped profile provides a smooth playing feel. The pau ferro also provides the Stratocaster with a warm, soft tone whilst helping to ‘fur up’ the maple’s natural sound. The neck and fingerboard combination provide the guitar with sparkling, sizzling highs, a thick, firm low end, and an open midrange with a snappy attack.
Equipped with a set of powerful vintage-style single-coil strat pickups, the Signature Fender Guitar delivers beautifully vintage tones suitable for a wide variety of playing styles. The pickups offer plenty of sustain to ensure each note sings, while its bell-like character and excellent articulation makes the guitar perfect for creating epic solos and massive soundscapes. Use the master volume and 2 x tone controls to dial in the perfect sound for any situation, and flick between pickups with the high quality 5-way switch.
Featuring a carefully fitted synthetic bone nut, the signature guitar delivers an increased resonance and bright tonality. When compared to traditional plastic and Tusq materials used to construct guitar nuts, synthetic bone improves the vibration transfer between the string and tuning machines without dampening the tone.
Born in 1942, Jimi Hendrix was an American rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in history; The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes him as ''arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock music''. After moving to England in late 1966 and being discovered by Linda Keith, within months Hendrix had earned three top ten hits with the Jimi Hendrix Experience: ''Hey Joe'', ''Purple Haze'' and ''The Wind Cries Mary''.
