The Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Standard Plain Top VOS in Iced Tea finish originates from the top-level luthiers of the Gibson Custom Shop. This guitar is based on the incredible bulk of research that makes up the True Historic line of instruments and features the same custom contours and hand-sanded finishes that were found on the guitars of the '50s and '60s. This guitar features a late-'50s neck profile, double-carved body and neck, rolled fingerboard, and accurate True Historic plastic hardware. The pickups are Gibson's own Custom Buckers, created to be the most accurate modern-day representation of the original Seth Lover-designed PAF pickup, with the same bite, nuance, and unique voice of the originals. The Custom Les Paul Standard is crafted with choice tonewoods, including a 1-piece mahogany body with plain maple top, glued on with period-correct hide glue. The neck is a classic mahogany design with rosewood fingerboard, while the frets have a modern touch - being finished with a PLEK machine for perfect playability and accuracy across the whole fingerboard. The Iced Tea colour on the body gives a fabulous reveal of the maple grain underneath, and the VOS finish provides an authentic vintage feel while letting the tonewoods resonate to their fullest. This guitar comes with a hardcase and certificate of authenticity, making it a complete package with a huge degree of collectability. This is as close as you can get to the experience of a late '50s Gibson guitar without buying a true original, backed up by modern-day reliability and construction standards.

Exceptional Tonewoods

The Custom Shop Les Paul Standard is constructed from a solid piece of mahogany, specially chosen for its light weight and exceptional resonance. The top is crafted from plain maple and glued to the body with period-correct hide glue. This small detail provides enhanced transfer of tone throughout the body and represents the fastidious attention to detail that Gibson Custom Shop guitars include. The neck is crafted from mahogany and topped with a classic rosewood fingerboard.

Period Correct Contours & Finish

The Custom Shop Les Paul Standard has a double-carved top and a double-carved neck. These contours are based on a decades-long study into the best examples of vintage Gibsons, where every unique detail is copied with forensic accuracy. The neck is hand-sanded for perfect playability, while the wet-sanded VOS (Vintage Original Specification) finish gives a lightweight low-gloss protection that lets the guitar resonate and look just like a '50s guitar. The neck's fingerboard binding is rolled to improve playability, while the late '50s profile gives a comfortable playing feel that is the ideal balance between thick and thin. The Les Paul's Iced Tea finish really shows off the beautiful grain of the maple top, and makes this guitar appear as if you've just bought it from a shop from 60 years ago.

True Historic Spec Hardware

When producing the True Historic Custom Shop instruments, Gibson took many of the original plastic hardware pieces and analysed them at a microscopic level to determine their composition. These True Historic plastic parts have been incorporated into the Custom Shop Standard Les Paul, so you're getting the totally authentic plastic pickup surrounds, pickguards, tuning pegs and control knobs as a '50s guitar.

Custom Bucker Pickups

Exclusive to Gibson Custom Shop instruments, the Custom Bucker pickups are crafted with alnico III magnets and wired with an uneven number of turns, producing a distinctive feel and unique character. These pickups recreate the original Seth Lover PAF design of the '50s, based on precise study and measurements. The result is the closest modern-day representation of these iconic pickups that you can get. The pickups are wired with authentic vintage-style electronics, giving you the real response of a classic Gibson guitar. This guitar will deliver the perfect tone for blues and rock, and any other style of music requiring finesse and nuance, with a powerful 'bite' when you wind them up.

Complete Custom Package

Like all Gibson Custom Shop models, the level of quality on this Custom Shop Les Paul is second to none. Each model has a perfect fret job, thanks to the PLEK machine which perfectly levels the frets, letting you play the guitar straight out of the box with accurate intonation and an incredibly smooth feel.
