The Gibson Explorer first made its debut in 1958 alongside the Flying V, designed to bring a more futuristic aspect to the Gibson brand. The Explorer's raw power, scorching tones, and extreme sustain makes it an iconic design that's as rebellious as rock itself.
Beneath the Explorer's aggression and brute sonic force lies the subtler qualities that make a Gibson such a special guitar. From it superb playing comfort, extreme speed, and the confidence of utmost quality.
The Explorer's striking appearance has made it a favourite with the rock and metal community. Used by many notable musicians, including Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters), James Hetfield (Metallica), Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Allen Colling (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Paul Stanley (Kiss), Gary Moore (Thin Lizzy), and many more.
The 2019 Explorer Tribute is constructed from a mahogany body and matching neck, with a classic rosewood fingerboard. This results in a comfortably weighted instrument that won’t cause strain after long playing sessions. The selection of tonewoods also enhances the overall tone with a warm, resonant character.
The neck also features a 44mm slim taper profile. This design is perfect for reaching across the entire fingerboard with ease without compromising the necks durability and stability. Its frets have also been cryogenically treated, extending their durability for a longer lifespan.
The set of Dirty Fingers + pickups are replicas of the famous super-hot humbuckers that Gibson introduced back in the 70s. These pickups use three ceramic magnets to deliver an incredible amount of power. This lets you punch through dense mixes with ease – all without compromising your guitar's original tone.
Its overwound yet unbalanced coils deliver plenty of power and sustain. With its adjustable pole pieces letting you fine tune the output for each string to suit your paying style. The Dirty Fingers + have also been fully wax potted to help eliminate any unwanted noise for a clean performance.
The Explorer Tribute is finished off with a selection of high-quality components, providing you with a strong and stable instrument that will handle all walks of life. Gibson's own Nashville tune-o-matic bridge lets you easily adjust the string action and intonation range with ease. Simply adjust its mounting rods to set the perfect height and screw in or out the saddles to set the intonation.
A set of Grover's Rotomatic machine heads provide excellent tuning stability. The additional tektoid nut also enhances string stability. It self-lubricates to help eliminate friction, which can usually cause tuning problems. The nut material also increases the Gibson's harmonics and sustain, creating a more rich and detailed tone.
