The Gibson Firebird was designed by car designer Ray Deithrich back in the 60s. Its shape was inspired by the tail-fins of cars in the 50s, resulting in an explorer type shape that’s more rounded and stylish.
This shape become renowned as the ‘’reversed-body'' style, which uses an offset upper horn and smaller lower horn to create its memorable flipped over aesthetic. This design also provides you with excellent playing comfort – letting your strumming hand sit comfortably in any position.
The 2019 Firebird is crafted from a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. Resulting in a comfortable weight and a warm, resonant character. Its neck is constructed from walnut and mahogany. This helps strengthen the neck and protect it from warping and bowing over time.
The neck also features a 44mm slim taper profile. This design is perfect for reaching across the entire fingerboard with ease and doesn't compromise the neck's durability or stability. Its frets have also been cryogenically treated, extending their durability for a longer lifespan.
Equipped with a set of mini Firebird humbuckers, this 2019 Gibson Firebird offers the iconic bright tones and focused output of the original firebird guitars. Originally designed to serve the growing demand of a P-90 sized pickup with no hum, the mini humbuckers have become a favourite for their tight and focused sound.
These authentic replicas still deliver the same tones and feeling as the originals. With its classic bar alnico II magnets providing a vintage character and wax potting eliminating unwanted noise for a truly vintage performance.
The Firebird is finished off with a selection of high-quality components, providing you with a strong and stable instrument that will handle all walks of life. Gibson's own Nashville tune-o-matic bridge lets you easily adjust the string action and intonation range with ease. Simply adjust its mounting rods to set the perfect height and screw in or out the saddles to set the intonation.
A set of Grover's Rotomatic machine heads provide excellent tuning stability. The additional tektoid nut also enhances string stability. It self-lubricates to help eliminate friction, which can usually cause tuning problems. The nut material also increases the Gibson's harmonics and sustain, creating a more rich and detailed tone.
