With a combination of solid sitka spruce and walnut, the J-15 projects a broad dynamic range with clear harmonics and plenty of sustain. This sonically pleasing combo features a sitka spruce top that delivers crisp articulation, a broad dynamic range and generates a versatile tone that can accommodate numerous different genres and playing techniques with ease. The brightly toned sitka spruce top is accompanied by walnut back and sides which deliver a strong, clear, fundamental. Walnut offers a warm, earthy sound with the overtone depth of rosewood and the clarity of mahogany.
Constructed from maple, the J-15's neck delivers bright characteristics with lots of bite and sustain, while the silky smooth action complements the maple to unleash and player's full potential. Although maple is a brightly toned piece of timber, its the mids that tend to have a snappier attack with a punchy, slightly gnarly edge when driven with hard pick attack, as well as excellent clarity when playing light to medium fingerpicking techniques. This smooth playing maple neck is topped with a walnut fingerboard that not only offers a pleasing aesthetic but provides a balanced, unique earthy tone. The walnut offers a stable design that brings a sonic warmth to the maples natural tone to create sizzle and a tight top end.
The J-15's round shoulder dreadnought body provides players with plenty of projection and maintains overall tonal balance across the spectrum. The big body is better suited to players with a longer reach, and those more comfortable with the dreadnought size. The Gibson J-15 offers superb projection, making it ideal for the singer/songwriter, as vocalists can push their diaphragm to the max without feeling too loud against the guitar's volume. Its round shoulders not only offer an elegant aesthetic but provide the J-15 with a mellow mid-range focus for players of all styles and techniques.
The Gibson J-15 comes equipped with a subtle L.R. Baggs Element, offering players an advanced undersaddle pickup with unrivaled dynamic range. The Element is designed to mirror the soundboard's actual movement as you play, providing clear, pure, and natural acoustic tones. At the heart of the pickup is a sensor that picks up the guitar's most delicate nuances. This professional-quality pickup provides an idyllic set up for the more serious performing musicians.
As with many of Gibson's acoustic range, the J-15 features traditional hand scalloped X-bracing. This specific type of bracing structure consists of two braces forming an 'X' shape across the soundboard which not only enhances the sound and offers a well-balanced tone, but also provides a reinforced stable and durable structure.
