A Gibson rock guitar, plain and simple. Stripped-down, straight-talking and versatile, the SG Special continues the single-cutaway Les Paul heritage that Gibson have been building on since 1961. A bold and loud thoroughbred favoured by Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend and Robby Krieger, this is the straight-ahead rocker's weapon of choice.
Just like all great SGs of the past five decades, the Gibson SG Classic has a body crafted from solid mahogany in the asymmetrical "double-horned" deep double-cutaway design. A light and supremely resonant wood, mahogany gives this guitar outstanding tonal richness and depth with plenty of clarity and sustain, whilst also enhancing playing comfort due to its light weight. The Gibson SG Classic of course boasts the characteristic beveled edge - a big part of this model's distinctive styling.
The mahogany tonewood is superbly rendered by two of Gibson's most popular humbucker pickups: the 490T and the 490R. This renowned pickup combination is very versatile. In the neck position a warm, mellow vocal sound is produced. Switch to the bridge position to get a brighter, driving tone, and select both for a good all-rounder suitable to be run through all manner of effects and amp types. Complementing this setup are the Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece, which offer the solidity and sustain partnered with precision intonation adjustment that have made this equipment the industry standard since Gibson president Ted McCarty conceived them in the mid '50s.
This Gibson comes with the manufacturer's own Limited Lifetime Warranty, and a complementary Gibson Deluxe Gigbag. If you want simple, well-designed power coupled with bold styling, look no further than the Gibson SG Special.
