The Gibson SJ-200 Studio combines a beautiful choice of tonewoods to achieve both a premium tone and visually stunning Gibson guitar. Crafted with a sitka spruce top, the SJ-200 Studio offers longevity and a uniform grain, providing a sturdy platform. The sitka spruce top produces an incredibly versatile soundboard and a generates a broad dynamic range that can accommodate many different playing techniques with ease. Its high-quality sitka spruce top is coupled with walnut back and sides, which not only provides a superb tone, but offers a beautiful visual aesthetic. Walnut produces a strong, clear tone with clear harmonics with lots of sustain. The walnut body has a bright tone with the warm, earthy depth of rosewood and the clarity of mahogany.
Crafted from mahogany, the Studio's neck provides superb durability and resonance. Mahogany is commonly used to construct guitar necks as the wood responds greatly to many different playing techniques, also offering a sonic warmth that is contrasted beautifully by its granadillo fingerboard. Its mahogany neck is topped with a granadillo fingerboard which provides the SJ-200 Studio with a warm, clean sweetness and a sizzling-sparkle that will shine through delightfully when using fingerpicking techniques. Granadillo holds many similar tonal properties to rosewood and will provide a smooth and energetic playing experience. For added elegance the fingerboard is sprinkled with mother of pearl inlaid crowns, providing a high-quality appearance as well as a premium tone.
The SJ-200 Studio features a super jumbo body shape, offering an incredible projection and a full-bodied tone. The aptly named super jumbo guitar is better suited to players with a longer reach and those more comfortable with bigger bodied instruments. The body is sprinkled with a full host of decorative features that include a walnut burst finish, traditional multi-strip rosette, and a beautifully cut moustache bridge. Other ornate details include a sleek and authentic looking pickguard that enhances the super jumbo's curvaceous shape. For added elegance the SJ-200 has mother of pearl crown inlays, complemented by chrome hardware and grover rotomatic tuners for a high-end appearance.
The Gibson SJ-200 Studio comes equipped with the popular Anthem pickup from L.R. Baggs, which features a low-profile soundhole mounted pickup that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. This revolutionary design is engineered to capture the same dynamics of a guitar that's been mic'd up in a studio environment, and helps maintain its remarkable feedback suppression for stage performance. The Anthem can deliver an incredible balanced frequency response and offers incredible clarity. This high-quality setup and premium Gibson design and construction makes the SJ-200 Studio perfect for the professional gigging musician.
As with many of Gibson's acoustic range, the SJ-200 Studio features traditional hand scalloped X-bracing. This specific type of bracing structure consists of two braces forming an 'X' shape across the soundboard which not only enhances the sound and offers a well-balanced tone, but also provides a reinforced stable and durable structure.
