Custom Playing Features Based on the Ibanez Universe

The Ibanez APEX200 celebrates the 20-year anniversary of the release of Korn's self-titled album. The guitar is based on James "Munky" Shaffer's original Ibanez Universe guitar, so features a raft of features aimed at effortless playability and powerful tones.

James specified a black and red colour scheme that he said was the most "metal-looking" of all finishes. The guitar also features the tilt-neck joint of the Ibanez Universe and some smooth and reliable playing features designed to withstand a professional musician's touring life.

Classic Tonewoods

In James Monkey's words, the reason he chose an alder wood guitar for his signature model is because "alder wood guitars take a little bit more of a beating…sound great, are consistent, and have a little bit more resonance, especially for those low-end notes". These qualities make the APEX200 the ideal instrument for modern metal performance - it needs to be reliable and road-worthy whilst capable of delivering a balanced frequency response across low-end riffs.

The maple neck is a 5pc design, sandwiched with wenge for stable tuning and increased resonance. The rosewood fingerboard assists with low-end articulation and helps with your pick attack during complex riffs.

Distinct Aesthetics

The APEX200 is designed to be sleek, just like a "fast race car". It has a no-nonsense black and red aesthetic with a custom-designed 12th fret inlay. The angular pick guard and headstock show this guitar's influence from the original Ibanez Universe, with a distinctly modern slant for today's players.

DiMarzio Blaze Pickups

The DiMarzio Blaze bridge humbucker provides a scooped mid sound for a strong bass response without any mid-range muddiness. This tonality enables the pickup to handle fast soloing and complex chords with great clarity. When driven hard, this creates an almost Hi-Fi tone.

The Blaze neck single coil is an exceptionally tight sounding pickup that helps amplify all 7 strings with clarity and detail. Its neck position creates a warmer sound while the single coil tonality provides a more mellow response with increased brightness.

Lo-Pro Edge 7

The Lo-Pro Edge 7 tremolo bridge provides a double locking action for guaranteed tuning stability during long gigs and practice sessions. This tremolo arm has a "U" bar attachment that allows you to create pitch bending effects with the base of your right-hand palm; this will allow you to use the most energetic and aggressive performance styles on stage without any worry of knocking the strings out of tune.

Fast Playability

The APEX200 has a fast-playing thin neck with a custom APEX profile and 430mm radius, ensuring an easy reach over all 7 strings. The 24 frets are jumbo size for enhanced string contact and control, while the tilt neck joint and deep body cutaway allows effortless access to the top-end of the neck. This guitar is a sleek instrument that will enable the most brutal and aggressive of playing styles with a professional level of reliability to withstand a punishing life of gigging.
