Ibanez's new Thermo Aging process creates toneswoods with enhanced volume across the entire frequency spectrum. The woods are specially dried at a high temperature, a process known as torrefaction. This gives the woods an 'aged' aesthetic and helps open up the response to player dynamics, giving you a more stable instrument with greatly enhanced resonance and a sweeter sound.
The AVD80 features a solid AA Adirondack spruce top. Not only does this provide a bright tone, the Thermo Aged tonewood has a beautifully dark hue, like a decades-old instrument which complements the stunning AA grain pattern. The top is supported by Thermo Aged spruce X bracing for increased sustain and response to your playing dynamics, while the Indian rosewood back/sides gives the strength required for powerful projection.
The dreadnought body shape has long been chosen for its powerful acoustic projection and full-bodied sound. The large internal volume gives this body shape a deep low-end, slightly scooped mids, and a shimmery treble which makes it ideal for strummers and fingerpickers alike. Played acoustically, this body shape has an impressive volume to accompany singers and other instruments.
A Thermo Aged mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard is a classic combination that gives a balance of fast note articulation and sustain. The neck features a soft-V shape like a vintage guitar, finished with satin for a smooth playing feel as you transition up the fingerboard. The Thermo Aging process creates more stable tonewoods, giving the AVD80 better tuning stability.
The AVD80 is fixed with Gotoh SXB510 gold open-gear tuners for a perfect balance of vintage aesthetics and reliable operation. The tuning stability is enhanced with an oil-impregnated bone nut and saddle, giving a friction-less platform for the strings to sit while adding warmth to the guitar's tone.
The AVD80 is crafted to look like a decades-old guitar and it has many classic design touches, including a wooden mosaic backstrip inlay, abalone and wooden body purfling, grained ivoroid binding, and an abalone/wooden rosette. These design touches complement the bound fingerboard and the un-bleached bone nut/saddle to give the traditional look of a vintage dreadnought guitar. The AVD80 is a real triumph of aesthetics and tones, giving you the most authentic vintage-guitar experience possible combined with modern-day construction methods and reliability.
