Ibanez and Gary Willis have been collaborating since 1999, when Ibanez first introduced Gary’s signature bass which had been in development for over 2 years. This first bass offered players an instrument built to Willis' exact specs, letting bassists achieve that classic ''Willis sound''. Each consecutive model built upon the last, providing small upgrades to deliver a truly innovative performance.
The Ibanez GWB35 features a strong and sturdy basswood body finished in a sleek black flat colour, with black hardware to create a stunning aesthetic to reflect is dark tones. Players will love the elegant contours and the comfortable performance, suitable for a range of playing styles. In addition, a double cutaway design offers easier access to the higher frets and flexibility across the whole fingerboard.
As well as a lightweight body, the GWB35 Signature is also equipped with a maple neck and an ebony fingerboard, offering an incredible stable and smooth performance. The maple tonewood provides the overall tone with a beautifully bright characteristic, creating a sizzling high-end with plenty of punch. The ebony fingerboard features a smooth, natural finish, along with a very responsive bright, snappy attack and a smooth sustain.
This Signature Ibanez’s fretless design provides a unique tone that fretted versions can’t achieve. By removing the frets, the strings can vibrate more freely and interact directly with the ebony fingerboard. This setup also offers players a naturally smooth slide and a double-bass style vibrato and microtonal intonations. While the fretless bass is used mainly in jazz and funk since it offers a similar feel and tone as an acoustic double bass, it can work well in a wide variety of musical styles.
Included on Gary’s Signature Ibanez is a powerful SFR-GWB pickup and EQB-GWII EQ, delivering an incredibly versatile performance with excellent tone control. This single custom pickup is designed in collaboration with Gary to deliver his icon sound, while the EQB-GWII EQ features bass and treble controls for maximum control over shaping and crafting its tone. The EQ section offers a wide frequency range to boost or cut, allowing you to mould every nuance of your sound to create the perfect sound for your playing.
