The Ibanez KOMRAD20 Head is Brian "Head" Welch's signature guitar designed to cope with low end riffing and the heaviest of guitar tones. As guitarist for the band Korn, Welch needs a guitar to be able to perform their unique blend of metal and hip-hop in low 7-string tunings and with heavily distorted tones. The specification of this guitar allows for low end clarity and string definition, ensuring your riffs will remain clear.
The KOMRAD20 is made to play with low tuning and distorted tones, so you may imagine that high output pickups would be ideal for a guitar like this. However, this style of music can often result in guitar tone become muddy, so this model is spec'd with slightly lower output 7-string pickups by DiMarzio. They feature some of the same technology employed in the Virtual Vintage® pickup series to produce a sound that’s both clean and open on the low notes and warm and rounded on the highs. This will ensure that when your guitar is played through high-gain amps, your tone will never become muddy and retain clarity for all those low end riffs.
This classic tonewood combination ensures that the KOMRAD20 maintains brightness and even tone throughout its range. The maple neck is a 3-piece design in the Ibanez Wizard-II profile, built for sustain and an easy playing experience across all 7-strings. A flat radius and medium frets ensure a fast feel for the left hand, so there will be no barriers to technical playing.
The KONRAD20 includes a fixed bridge for low end sustain and tuning stability, no matter how aggressive your performances are. A simple 3-way switching system provides enough versatility in tone selection and the solid pickup selector switch will last through many heated performances. This guitar is built to last on the road, no matter how heavy the music is.
