The SLAT8’s fingerboard provides the most striking aspect of this instrument and its increased scale length on the bass side only ensures optimum string tension across the entire range. This delivers clarity and sustain on the low strings, easing through to high strings with lower tension for easier soloing. The angle of the frets also allows for greater intonation accuracy and an ergonomic fit for the left hand. If you are a guitarist who needs lower and higher range that would usually be achieved with lower tunings, this guitar provides all of those benefits and yet still retains the sustain and clarity of a normal 6-string instrument in standard tuning.
The Jackson X Series SLAT8 FF Soloist comes from Jackson’s Soloist range and features the classic asymmetric double cutaway design giving easy access to the top frets. Its body is heavily contoured and features a low-profile neck joint to allow easy excursions to the top-end of the neck. The fingerboard is surprisingly ergonomic and lines up very well with the left-hand fingers. It is constructed with a compound radius, designed to allow comfortable low-range chordal playing (with a narrower radius) easing up to easier solo playing at the top of the neck with a wider radius. The jumbo frets give a confident left hand feel and enable good grip on the strings for vibrato and string bends.
The SLAT8 FF is loaded with EMG808 pickups which give clarity and articulation in low-end riffing while maintaining smoothness for high-range soloing. They are mounted on a basswood body, known for its lightness and versatile tonal capabilities. The neck is smooth-feeling maple with a classic rosewood fingerboard providing sustain and low-end response. These pickups and wood combinations also allow for clean playing, and can deliver pristine tones across the range. This guitar will excel in the progressive rock/metal genres, giving you easy playability for technically challenging material alongside a range of tonal capabilities and extended range.
