There is a Music Man ceramic humbucker on-board the StingRay 4 bass, which produces a huge, hot sound. Delivering a musical and harmonic tone, the ceramic humbucker is ideal for a range of styles with its rich articulation.
The 2-band active preamp gives more control over the dynamics of your bass' tone. With the standard volume control, the 2-band EQ is also configured with controls for treble and bass. These allow for tonal adjustments that will suit your playing style. The on board EQ ensures that you have a fantastic tone before the sound even reaches your amplifier.
Redesigned with rounded body contours, the StingRay provides players with enhanced comfort and a sleek appearance. The ash body delivers bright tones with good resonance, and a sound that has plenty of twang. The ash tones are both crisp and articulate, with firm lows and snappy highs.
Featuring a maple neck, the StingRay 4 gives the guitar's tone added tightness and some cut to brighten up the sound. With both the neck and fingerboard made from maple, this adds sizzle to the highs, firmness to the lows and give the mid range a snappy attack. Figured maple has a stunning appearance, and therefore enhances the guitar's appearance..
Music Man's StingRay was first created in 1976 by Joe Fender and Tom Walker with the help of Sterling Ball who was a beta tester for the StingRay. Although it was physically similar to other basses on the market, the StingRay was considered a highly innovative instrument and since then has been a favourite for several influential bassists such as Louis Johnson, Flea, Bernard Edwards and Guy Pratt. The StingRay has continued its success through consistent refinement and excelling craftsmanship.
Music Man (originally Tri-Sonix) was founded in 1971 by Forrest White and Tom Walker with the help of Leo Fender, who at the time was a silent partner due to a 10-year non-compete clause he was tied to. In 1974 when they officially became Music Man, the company produced its first product, an amplifier designed by Leo Fender and Tom Walker called the "Sixty Five" and a year later Leo Fender was named president of the company. It was in 1976 when Music Man started to produce guitars and basses in the form of the StingRay 1 Guitar and StingRay Bass and the company was later bought to Ernie Ball in 1984.
