Paul Tebbutt the designer of Pigrim banjos strived to replicate that distinctive and sought after sound that many players look for in banjos. It wasn't until 2015 that Tebbutt came up with the innovative design of the morning star tone ring, which is attached via the 24 brackets and adds weight to the banjo, creating a depth of tone with a crisp response.
Pilgrim ensure all of their products have the highest standard of quality, including every small detail, and strive to maintain the classic looks of Banjos. The Bluegrass Resonator Banjo is beautifully crafted from flamed maple with a faced ebony cap. The use of maple provides a delicious combination a warm mids, crisp articulation and perfect clarity. Maple also provides a sturdy housing which offers a high level of resilience that is ideal for extreme usage. The benefit of a resonator banjo is its ability to project the sound forward and give the instrument more volume. This type of banjo is particularly used in bluegrass music and played by players of all styles. Overall, the Bluegrass Five String Resonator Banjo has all the drive and projection you will ever need with an integrity of tone that makes it stand out as something very special.
As well as a stunning body and sound, the Bluegrass Resonator Banjo also features a beautiful maple neck that is topped with an ebony fingerboard. Maple provides a sturdy platform, and ensures the neck will not warp overtime, which adds to the longevity of this elegant instrument. The ebony fingerboard is finished with ornate star inlays, that make this quality instrument stand out from other banjos on the market. Both neck and fingerboard provide a smooth and comfortable platform for your hand, and feature 22 frets.
Unlike standard 4 string banjo models, the Bluegrass Resonator features an additional 5th string, with a tuning peg located in the middle of the neck for easy access. The fifth string is usually the same gauge as the first, but starts from the fifth fret, three quarters the length of the other strings. This lets the string be tuned to a higher open pitch than possible for the full-length strings. Five string Banjos are extremely common with bluegrass music, in particular styles include: scruggs style, melodic, and three-finger styles. It is an ideal instrument for players that specialise in finger picking.
