The ESP LTD Vulture’s body is crafted from Mahogany and given a unique V style shape. Designed by James Hetfield with Metallica style influences, the guitar has a black satin finish to create a visually stunning instrument. Its Mahogany construction delivers a soft tone, with plenty of grind and bite to keep the tone well-balanced and provide it with plenty of depth. The Vulture's high end comes across as appealing whilst its low end is full and features some tightness to stop it being too open.
Featuring a 3-piece Mahogany neck to provide a warm tone and provide an appealing sound, the neck also helps to open up the sound and give it a mellow feel for great articulations. The Macassar Ebony fingerboard’s dark colour adds to the guitars interesting appeal and helps to tighten up the sound, giving it a defined feel to provide excellent clarity and offer a fast attack. The Mahogany and Macassar Ebony combination brings the ESP sizzling highs that are slightly snappy, presence to the lower mids and offers a muscular controlled bass.
When designing the Vulture, James Hetfield wanted to create a new set of pickups that could deliver clarity and punch of a passive with the fat, wall-like legendary tone of an active. EMG and James Hetfield came together to try and create something unique and historic, and through trial and error created the EMG JH set. Also known as the “HET” set, the pickups are given a stealthily sleek look that can pack a punch. The neck pickup is designed with individual ceramic pole and bobbins with a large core to deliver a full low end that can achieve high attack and output. The bridge pickup has the same design as the neck, but instead features steel poles to produce a tighter attack and offer less inductance for a cleaner low end.
The ESP LTD incorporates a Tonepros locking tune-o-matic bridge, which features high tension springs so the bridge clips and locks into place, preventing it from moving around and to increase string security. The bridge’s construction also helps to reduce thread play and works in tangent with the moulded nut to reduce the string from detune no matter how hard they’re hit. The tune-o-matic also uses a tailpiece to help improve sustain and create excellent harmonics and improve intonations.
