The Classic 70s Jazz Bass features an alder body, producing balanced, resonant tones with plenty of clarity and midrange bite ideal for the versatile musician. The alder tonewood provides a decent amount of sustain, creating bright, sizzling highs, beautifully rounded lows, and a beefy midrange. Fender have used alder as their tonewood of choice since the 1950s, as the balanced response and slight upper middle definition makes it perfect for rock and blues playing.
The bass guitar’s maple neck provides bright tonal characteristics, tightening up the sound and giving it plenty of cut. The maple delivers a powerfully sharp punch when the strings are hit hard, whilst still retaining its clarity to allow each note to sing. The pau ferro fingerboard offers the same fundamental tones as a rosewood fingerboard, while the 1970s ''C'' shaped profile provides a smooth, classic playing feel. The pau ferro also provides the Stratocaster with a warm, soft tone whilst helping to ‘fur up’ the maple’s natural sound. The neck and fingerboard combination provide the guitar with sparkling, sizzling highs, a thick, firm low end, and an open midrange with a snappy attack.
A pair of standard vintage single-coil Jazz Bass pickups provide the Fender with a warm, vintage tone inspired by the iconic Motown tones of the 60s. The pickups are designed with alnico magnets to offer the classic low-end flavour and midrange scoop. Players can benefit from a full host of classic warm tones, with plenty of midrange thump, and a rich bottom end. Independent volume and master tone controls allow players to dial in a variety of tonal options, creating an incredibly versatile bass suitable for a variety of musical styles.
Featuring a carefully fitted synthetic bone nut, the Fender Jazz Bass delivers an increased resonance and bright tonality. When compared to traditional plastic and Tusq materials used to construct guitar nuts, synthetic bone improves the vibration transfer between the string and tuning machines without dampening the tone.
Introduced in 1960, Fender welcomed a new decade by debuting a deluxe bass guitar, the Jazz Bass. Sleek and supercharged with dual pickups, a slim neck and a curvaceous offset waist, the Jazz Bass has ruled the world of electric bass ever since Fender first introduced it. The versatile and unmistakable tone, effortless feel and performance make the Jazz Bass the number-one choice for professional bassists worldwide.
