Beneath its colourful exterior lies a classic alder body, which has been Fender's choice of tonewood since the 50s. This wood provides you with that iconic Tele 'twang' that can be heard on countless Telecaster throughout the years. Alder's a great tonewood, giving you plenty of sustain and clarity. Its versatile tonal properties makes it perfect for a variety of different musical genres.
The classic body also features a traditional vintage-style Tele bridge, completing its classic look while offering incredible string stability. The bridge also features a string-though-body setup. This gives you an increase in sustain by enhancing the level of vibration transfer from the strings to the body. Make those strings sing.
For that traditional 60s playing experience, the Fender MIJ Tele is equipped with a classic ''U'' shaped neck. This neck profile was used predominantly on the Japanese made models, since it offered more comfort across the entire fingerboard for players with smaller hands than standard C profiles.
To give the MIJ Hybrid Tele is classic sound, a set of American Vintage '58 single-coils are equipped. These are designed to the same specs as a Tele pickup from 1958, creating that authentic, traditional Fender tone and performance. While the neck pickup gives you a sweet, clear tone, the bride pickup is designed with staggered pole pieces to ensure volume balance across the strings. This results in clear, tight tones with an upper-end edge.
For a modern twist, the two pickups will deliver the same reliability and durability of pickups made today. They are also setup with a 4-way pickup selector - instead of the traditional 3-way. This not only expands the variety of tonal options on hand, but lets you run both pickups in either series or parallel. With series offering a fuller tone and higher output compared to the brighter and lower output parallel.
This Hybrid Telecaster use a combination of classic and modern appointments to give you the perfect playing experience. You'll still receive a truly 50s feel while getting that modern reliability. The vintage style locking tuners are designed to express that classic look, while offering excellent string and tuning stability.
The additional bone nut also adds to the Made in Japan Tele's stunning looks, while enhancing the tone's natural resonance and sustain. Bone is the perfect material for guitar nuts, featuring a long life and helping the overall tone remain balanced. This type of nut naturally self-lubricates, helping the guitar stay in tune for longer when compared to modern materials.
The Made in Japan series from Fender introduces you to the craft and style of Fender Japan, providing you with one-off runs that embrace Fender's history. Fender Japan was first created back in 1982 to sell Fender guitars to the Japanese market. These were built in Japan to keep the price down to rival the Fender imitations that were being sold.
These Japanese productions were manufactured by FujiGen Gakki and marked as 'Made in Japan' (MIJ) until around 1992. It was then that production started moving to Tokai Gakki and Dyna Gakki, with these being marked as 'Crafted in Japan' (CIJ). It wasn't until 2015 when Fender itself took over the Japanese line, bringing you a whole new experience with classic designs in its 'Made in Japan' guitars.
The rich history of Fender guitars begins with the Telecaster. An indispensable instrument, the Telecaster was the world's first successful solid-body electric guitar. Perfected after two years of development - and a name change or two - the Telecaster debuted in February 1951 and began its steady ascent towards the stage and studio.
Ingeniously engineered with the ability to be heard both loud and clear, it was a marvel of simple design elegance and workhorse functionality. It is perhaps a fitting testimony to its essential original rightness that the Telecaster design has hardly changed ever since.
