The Jackson guitar’s body is crafted from mahogany and finished in a sleek black colour with white binding, creating a sophisticated yet dangerous look which is only enhanced by its destructive tonal capabilities. The mahogany tonewood delivers a beautifully warm tone with a somewhat soft character, and offers an excellent balance of grind and bite for times when extra punch is needed.
The Pro Mick Thomson Guitar features Jackson's unique and innovative compound-radius fingerboard design, in which the fingerboard gradually flattens toward the heel from its more rounded profile at the nut. This design provides a smooth playability for both chords and riffs, whilst the flattened heel allows sensational accessibility and speed at the high register, perfect for both lead and rhythm players.
This Signature Jackson Soloist features a one-piece through-body maple neck with scarf joint and graphite reinforcement rods, which enhances it stiffness and stability while guarding against temperature and humidity-induced warping. The maple provides the overall tone with a round quality, creating bright characteristics and an excellent amount of sustain. The addition of an ebony fingerboard helps to tighten up the neck’s tone, giving it a defined feel, excellent clarity, and a fast attack. The maple and ebony combination creates a sparkling, sizzling high end, a muscular controlled bass response, and a snappy midrange with extra presence in the lower mids.
A reversed version of Jackson’s classic angled headstock is featured on the SL2 Soloist, carefully angled at 17 degrees to increase the pressure on the strings and help them stay in the nut slots. In addition, an increase in string pressure also means there is no loss of string vibration between the nut and the tuners, which equals better sustain and an overall smooth play.
In order to accommodate Thomson’s slaughtering riffs in destructive drop tunings, Mick and Seymour Duncan worked together to create a customised version of their iconic Blackout humbuckers. By tightening up the low-end and adding a little extra cut to the highs, without it being too harsh or scratchy, these custom Blackout pickups deliver an incredibly rich harmonic connect and a big sound across a wide frequency range. The bridge pickup has been designed to accentuate deep chunky palm muting styles, while the neck pickup cleans up nicely for crystal clear tones which get more aggressive with an increase in gain.
This guitar is also equipped with Jackson’s premium-built MTB HT6 bridge, designed with its fine tuners angled back from the vertical level to help maximise the level of comfort for the picking hand. Its high-quality design also provides the ultimate tuning stability, featuring three anchor points to deliver devastating resonance ideal for low-end ‘’chugs’’.

After joining Slipknot, Thomson perfected his destructive playing style and became a legend in delivering slaughtering riffs in dropped tunings.
