Many players delay changing strings and have to put up with dead strings to avoid the annoying task. Coatings that extend the life of the string are often avoided as previously they have been known to change the tone and feel of the string to the point of making it a compromise. The choice: long life or natural tone.
Martin joined forces with Everly Music to test their Martin SP strings with the Cleartone proprietary treatment. The ultra-thin treatment repels dirt and grime that deadens strings with no flaking and no loss of treatment after playing. The tone of these strings is natural and bright retaining the uncompromised tone and feel of Martin's top selling SP strings.
Stringing up with SP strings means you can stay in tune longer and play with confidence. Martin's SP Lifespan acoustic guitar strings start with their ultra-pure steel SP core wire giving you a perfect combination of tensile strength and response. They then add bronze electroplating to protect and enhance the core wire. The Martin wraps comprise a perfect combination of metals to give you the warmth or brilliance you demand. Their custom wrapping technique ensures tight tolerances to gauge and tension.
Some methods of coating a string tend to dampen the vibration of a string and degrade the natural tone but Martin found that with Cleartone string vibration was natural and unrestrained for the cleanest and liveliest tone. The Cleartone proprietary treatment creates a barrier to dirt and grime yet the treatment keeps the windings open to deliver a natural brilliant tone.
