The original '61-'75 vintage modified bass VI provided a distinctive low-end that featured in a number of renown bands, including The Beatles and The Cure. This Squier reissue of the Bass VI is distinguished from the original by its comfortable "modern C" shaped neck and 9.5" fingerboard radius, as opposed to the original's 7.25". Three custom jaguar pickups provide the bass with its distinguished sound, while the vintage-style six-saddle bridge features a non-locking floating vibrato, which is not commonly found on a bass, to create incredible pitch shifting effects.
The Squier Bass VI has a striking asymmetrical body with deep cutaways to provide easy access to the upper frets. The solid basswood tonewood offers a powerful midrange with excellent dynamics and definition, letting you create fat, well balanced tones with plenty of power behind it. The addition of a maple neck enhances its natural brightness, creating a sizzling high-end with a thick, creamy low-end. The bound laurel fingerboard offers an excellent sustain, while the 21 medium jumbo frets and pearloid block inlays create a stunning look.
The Vintage Modified Bass VI boasts three custom Jaguar single-coil pickups with notched "claw" shielding rings, which are widely renown for delivering beautifully bright, clean tones with excellent clarity. The middle pickup is also designed with a reverse-wound reverse-polarity setup, eliminating any unwanted hum when combined with either the neck or bridge pickups. Three two-position slider switches operate as on/off switches for each pickup, while the fourth switch operates the bass-cut "strangle" tone circuit for creating a wealth of tonal variations.
Featuring a carefully fitted synthetic bone nut, the Squier Bass VI delivers an increased resonance and bright tonality. When compared to traditional plastic and Tusq materials used to construct guitar nuts, synthetic bone improves the vibration transfer between the string and tuning machines without dampening the tone.
