thetStrymon El Capistan dTape Echo is a knockout attempt to create a pedal that would recreate the effects of an old tape echo machine, offering the warm saturated tones and distinct qualities that they would deliver. After a lot of research, Strymon have crafted dTape technology to produce the tonal qualities of the tape machine. Coupled with a powerful SHARC DSP, the El Capistan is capable of producing three different tape machines with a range of different modes.
The Strymon El Capistan dTape Echo is a pedal that comes complete with three different tape machines, with three different modes, the El Capistan allows you to shape the sound of the tape machine to best suit your playing style. With 10 parameters to tweak, the pedal gives you control over the tape quality, machine health and tone shape. Create sounds that are from a pristine, studio quality tape machine, or a heavily fluctuation machine that’s been worn down. Produce a full bodied tone of a fresh tape, or choose to have a worn tape to produce gnarling qualities.
The Strymon El Capistan dTape Echo features a sound on sound mode that mimics a moving head tape machine, giving you the ability to create a loop like effect. By switching to the single tape head and putting it it mode C, the pedal starts to record like a tape machine, allowing you to play and record your sound. By hitting the tap machine, you can set the splice in and out points to determine the length of you tape so then you can start layering sounds over one another. By hitting the bypass switch, the pedal will stop recording and then you can tweak the controls to change the sound of your loops. By setting the repeats to max, the pedal will create an infinite number of loops, and hitting the tap switch a third time erases the loop.
