Designed to be player focused, the popular Pacifica range offers sound, feel and versatility ready for any style or stage. When Yamaha set out to design the 611 guitar, they chose a P90 pickup for that smooth, blues tone. An often underused pickup, the P90 sings with smooth low end and modest treble cut, perfect for bluesy rock n roll. For the bridge, Yamaha have selected a Trembucker spaced version of the powerful Custom V for that full rhythm tone.
The modified, vintage style of the Yamaha Pacifica 611 comes partly from the stunning high grade flamed Maple top matched with exclusive see-thru colours giving an unmistakable boutique look. Colour matched to the body the flamed Maple headstock is inspired by the legendary Pacifica USA models whilst the tinted, gloss finished neck adds to that unique, irresistibly vintage look and feel. The Maple neck is smooth and very comfortable to play. As highly playable as any boutique guitar.
Like a higher-output version of the classic '59 humbucker, the Custom 5 on the Pacifica 611 was developed in response to players customizing their SH-5 Custom or SH-11 Custom pickups with Alnico 5 magnets for a more vintage, less distorted tone but retaining a deeper bottom end than the stock '59. This pickup rings with a full, yet sparkly rhythm tone with modest gain. Although it offers adequate vintage warmth the more prominent high end gives an increased modern and versatile feel.
The Yamaha Pacifica 611 has a Seymour Duncan P90 at the neck. Wound with plain enamel wire on a 1950's Leesona winding machine, the SP90-1's tone is a faithful reproduction of the original soapbar pickups. Short, wide bobbins give a higher output and more powerful midrange than conventional single-coils for a fat bluesy neck pickup tone with clarity impossible to achieve with humbucking pickups.
The Yamaha Pacifica 611 has a solid Alder body, a feature often found only on more expensive guitars, and which forms the backbone of Yamaha's quality sound. This is complimented with a selection of quality hardware. First up is Yamaha's original bridge plate/Graph Tech string saver saddle. Tefl on-impregnated saddles dramatically reduce string breakage while minimizing the dominant 2KHz tonal spike of metal saddles. Combining these saddles with Yamaha's original steel bridgeplate give the perfect combination of quick response and strong sustain. Locking Grover machineheads lock strings automatically for stable tuning and mega fast string changes.
The Yamaha Pacifica 611 features a coil tap function which allows simple switching from humbucker to single coil tones from the Seymour Duncan Custom 5 bridge pickup. The Graph Tech nut and string tree TUSQ XL is precision engineered to couple the strings vibrations to the neck and bring out hidden harmonics and richness in every note. 500 times more slippery than graphite, the Tefl on-impregnated material eliminates string-binging and ensures tuning stability, even with massive string bends.
