Key Features
The Benchmark MPA1 two-channel microphone preamplifier offers excellent transparency, ultra-low distortion and ultra-low noise performance. It is perfect for stereo pairs, ribbon mics and applications requiring pure, pristine sound.
Product Ref: 39500
The MPA1's input stage features high-voltage headroom at +29dBu, and single-stage gain control. It offers superb noise performance across the entire gain range thanks to its precision-matched, low-noise transistor quad-arrays, while the servo-controlled circuit minimises DC-offset and maximises headroom.
The exceptional low-frequency performance of the MPA1 comes from its dual-capacitor AC-coupling design. This defeats the usual limitations of single-capacitor designs, giving an exceptionally low corner-frequency with excellent subsonic phase-accuracy.
The MPA1 also boasts a unique gain control, using a 38-position switched resistor ladder set up in a continuously rotating orientation via relay control. It offers 2dB per step, 0-74dB of gain without attenuation and inter-channel gain precision of +/- 0.03dB.
Phantom power surges are kept away from the transistor stage by an ultra-fast, multi-stage protection circuit. Using high-speed, low-capacitance Schotky diodes and high-current TVS diodes, it absorbs phantom power surges and is pre-biased to be isolated from the circuit in normal operation and activated when a surge occurs.
The MPA1 is designed for rack mounting. It occupies half of a rack space, and can be mounted alone using Benchmark's rack mount kit, or in conjunction with another Benchmark module using the rack mount coupler.
