The Warm Audio WA76 1176 Style FET Compressor offers a unique feature known as 'All Buttons In' mode, a renowned effect in the music industry. By simultaneously pushing in all four ratio buttons and getting them to latch, you can reproduce the aggressive and unmistakably unique compression curve associated with this mode. Commonly referred to as 'British Mode' or the 'Four Button Trick', this mode originated as an accident due to the mechanical nature of the interconnected latching switches.
When using the 'All Buttons In' mode, you can expect a compression ratio (and sound) that is highly aggressive, along with attack and release curves that exhibit more aggressive compression rather than gentler slopes. Additionally, you may experience a noticeable level of distortion or 'overdrive' on the signal, adding a touch of character to your sound. This mode is particularly effective for enhancing drum tracks and can be heard on numerous classic recordings. Please note that the meter function may not provide accurate readings in this mode, as it was originally unintended and is faithfully maintained by the WA76.
Built with a commitment to quality and authenticity, the WA76 compressor faithfully reproduces the circuitry of the revision D, which is widely regarded as one of the best and most popular versions of the 1176 compressor. To ensure top-notch performance, we have used all discrete, through-hole components in the construction of this unit. This choice of components allows for optimal signal processing and exceptional sound quality.
Furthermore, the WA76 features high-quality CineMag input and output transformers, renowned for their ability to preserve the integrity of the audio signal. These transformers contribute to the warm and vibrant tone that the 1176 compressor is celebrated for. With a class-A circuit design that stays true to the legacy of the original model, the WA76 guarantees exceptional performance and reliability.
