All Hagstrom electric guitars include a H-Expander™ truss rod. It works by providing tension at both ends and running the entire length of the neck, the rigid yet light-weight alloy truss rod allows for a very low action and thin neck. This clever idea has given Hagstrom its reputation as the world's fastest playing guitar.
As well as providing ultimate neck stability, the unique truss rod also contributes to the guitars distinctive tone. It allows you to achieve a longer sustain and a round attack which adds to the tonal essence of Hagstrom.
Sustain Block Tailpiece
Another distinctive feature of the Ultra Swede is Hagstrom's signature Sustain Block Tailpiece. Produced in 1976, it made its first appearance on Swede and Super Swede guitars and has since been a popular characteristic on all Hagstrom solid body guitars. It works by each string terminating in a single, massive brass block coupled directly to the guitar's body generating a clear, bell-like sustain. The blocks are detached from each other to reduce interference between the strings, maximising each string’s individual contribution.
Pickups
As well as these distinctive features, the Ultra Swede is equipped with a matched pair of Hagstrom-designed Custom 62 open-coil humbucking pickups for a tight, controlled modern tone suitable for a wide spectrum of musical styles. These are operated by a simple 3-way toggle switch and a volume and tone control.
