The brand new Responsive Hammer Compact II technology has been carefully re-modelled from it's predecessor in order to provide the most authentic piano feel yet. The previous version had a 2 sensor switch and the update now sees a 3 sensor switch which is more lightweight and compact. This mechanism has been redesigned for the KDP110 by moving the hammer to the back of the key which provides an improved touch response with greater expressive control. Expressive playing has been considered on this redesign as the Responsive Hammer Compact II action has an improved pianissimo control so the keyboard feels lighter when playing more delicately and so mimics a grand piano even more. Conversely, the keys also feel heavier when playing fortissimo and again, mimics the feel and control of an acoustic grand piano.
To support this newly designed action, the Kawai KDP110 keyboard has been improved too. The keys are now in a matte finish as opposed to being shiny which improves the feeling on the keys, reduces key slips and improves the appearance. The action on the keys is now quieter with the introduction of key guides and bushing on every key.
Piano Sounds
Now, on the KDP110, comes the SK-EX grand piano sound which is Kawai's flagship grand piano so now you can play with the sound of a grand piano at a much more affordable price. The sound of the SK-EX has been painstakingly recorded and all 88 keys have been sampled and harmonically images to produce the best sound. With the Virtual Technician Smart Mode you can select a different 'profile' and make easy to use piano adjustments in just one touch.
More advanced features are included on the Virtual Technician iPad app where individual piano adjustments can be made via the user-friendly interface, such as damper resonance, half-pedal adjustment and hammer delay to name a few. A large array of reverb types can be selected to provide the feeling of playing in a cathedral, a large hall or lounge, for example.
Bluetooth MIDI / USB-MIDI Connectivity
The Kawai KDP110 is supported by a wide host of apps which allows you to record and play songs and link to your smartphone, tablet or laptop (iOS8, Android Marshmallow, OS X Yosemite) without the need for any cables or adapters (MIDI IN/OUT and USB to Host ports are still available). This range of apps allows you to adjust the minute details to tailor the sounds to your particular needs, record and create scores, adjust the layering of instruments and learn your favourite pieces of music so it is an extremely versatile digital piano, suitable for students as well as more advanced players.
Sound Output
Compared to the KDP90, the KDP110 has and improved sound quality and louder volume. The new amplifier and speakers now provide 40W of output (20W + 20W), a boost of 154 from the KDP90. This amp and speaker system is the same one that is featured on more advanced pianos.
The Spatial Headphone Sound enhances the depth and realism of the sound whilst listening through headphones. The headphone setting can also be adjusted depending on the type of headphones used - whether open, closed, in-ear etc. Also featured are standard and mini stereo jacks so there is no need for any adapters.
Other Key Changes
A wide range of educational lesson books are included. Czerny, Bergmuller, Beyer and Alfred Basics books are included which provide over 240 lessons. Metronome markings are also listed using their Italian names, for example, Andante = 72 bpm and Allegro = 132bpm.
Cabinet Design
The cabinet for the KDP110 has also been refreshed with a number of silver finishes - most notably to the key-lid, the Kawai logo and the pedals which also feature black felt. There is also a more modern music rest and the button panel has been re-imagined.
