The Tube-Tech EQ 1AM Mastering EQ is the mastering version of the now discontinued EQ 1A unit. The mastering unit features an all-tube based design, boasting three overlapping bands of equalisation. At the heart of the unit is 7 tube diodes, hand-picked for their unique characteristics and sound the provide. The unit includes three ECC 81s, 1 ECC 82 and three ECC 83 tubes. The specialised design delivers classic tube warmth, reminiscent of mastering EQs from the late 80s. The full-range design includes cut filters which are designed around the unity gain amplifier. The shelving and bell filters are centered around the two tube operational amplifiers.
The comprehensive control section features 7 sections in total, with each band featuring their own rotary controls. The 7 sections are fitted with retro-style rotary switches instead of potentiometers, allowing for precise recall of settings. The overlapping bands allow you to take control of each frequency band with maximum accuracy, giving you the ability to sculpt your sound with ease. It also features a low-cut section complete with a frequency switch, slope switch and an in/out switches. The high cut section also features the same controls, resulting in a more well-rounded sound.
The combination of the tube-circuitry and the comprehensive 3-band control, makes the EQ 1AM one of the most versatile mastering EQs on the market. It boasts very low noise of under -85dBu, resulting in pristine audio fidelity. The wide frequency response and premium-grade components deliver unparalleled audio performance, resulting in high-end sound reproduction. It also features a master bypass control with a clickless relay for added versatility. Both the input and output transformer are fully balanced and floating.
The vintage aesthetic the retro-style design provides is reminiscent of mastering EQs from the late 80s. It features classic-style rotary controls similar to that of mixing boards from the golden era. The gold-plated switches also add to the retro-style, adding a touch of class to the front-panel. It even features an overload indicator in the form of a large red LED light. The ergonomic layout features 7 sections in total, with each section fitted with its own separate in/out switch. It also features a rack-mountable design, ideal for mounting within studio hacks.
