Integrated Carnhill Input & Output Transformers

The PRE-74 JR Plus is a premium-grade microphone preamp, boasting vintage-style Class-A electronics, with no integrated circuits for optimal audio performance. This Plus version of the PRE-73 JR features built-in Carnhill Input and Output transformers for a more full-bodied, vintage-style sound. Based on the design and tonal character of classic mic preamps, the PRE-73 JR is ideal for delivering the best performance for your microphone. The unique tonal character is similar to vintage-style preamp, accentuating your input signal for the best possible sound. It features no integrated circuits for optimal signal integrity, ensuring minimal operational noise. It also boasts switchable Phantom Power and absolute phase for added versatility.

High-Impedance Instrument Input

As well as including a dedicated microphone connection, the PRE-73 JR Plus also includes a high-impedance instrument input. This instrument input is ideal for processing electric guitar, basses and sound modules, with its high impedance rate ensuring it can handle even the hottest of signals. The gain range on the preamp spans from 20 – 70dB, giving you more than enough breathing room for dialing in your required levels. The output level control allows you make finer adjustments, as well as overloading the main gain stage for added character.

Design & Construction

The compact yet robust design is ideal for both studio and live use, thanks to its heavy-duty all-metal design. A convenient feature is the insert jack, which allows you to insert EQs and other external units for use with the preamp. It includes an external power supply, to avoid any added interaction with the audio circuits and transformers, ensuring optimal audio performance. The flexible combo XLR/TRS input jack and separate output XLR and TRS jacks are highly versatile, allowing you to connect a range of equipment.
