Reminiscent of the colour scheme from the late '70s EDP Wasp synthesizer, the Doepfer A-124 Wasp Filter SE comes with a limited/special edition black front panel, with yellow knobs and control graphics, providing a beautiful and striking aesthetic quality.

Unique Filter Circuitry

The Doepfer A-124 Wasp Filter utilises the quirky circuitry from the late '70s EDP (Electronic Dream Plant) Wasp synthesizer. The original Wasp VCF was CMOS-based, allowing you to achieve unique and powerful post-filter distortion. The sound is distinctive, and incredibly versatile. The circuitry basically "abuses" digital inverters as analog op-amps giving you access to these dirty sounds and effects commonly associated with the Wasp filter. The A-124 builds on this however, by adding a band-pass output and combined low/notch/high-pass output. If both signals appear at the same level (Mix control set to the middle position), you achieve a notch filter, whilst either side of the middle will result in a more dominant low/high-pass filter respectively. Resonance can be manually adjusted, along with the cutoff frequency. However, the cutoff can also be controlled via the two CV inputs built into the Doepfer A-124.

Controls

• Lev. (Audio Level) - Input Signal Attenuator: Controls the input level of the signal that you wish to be filtered. Turning this control up can distort the signal
• Frq. - Cutoff Frequency Control: This adjusts the frequency of the filter
• CV 2 - Attenuator For CV 2 Input: Controls the level of the voltage control patched into the CV 2 input
• Res. - Resonance Control: Adjusts the resonance of the filter, which emphasises the frequencies around the cutoff frequency. As the Res. value increases, the frequencies around the cuttoff receive more and more emphasis. In contrast to other A-100 filter modules, the A-124 Wasp Filter does not feature self-oscillation. When in Band-Pass mode, the Res. value controls the bandwidth, with increasing the value resulting in a narrower bandwidth. This also applies in notch mode, but instead rejecting the frequency bandwidth instead of allowing that frequency to pass through
• Mix - Control For Low/High-Pass Signal Amounts: Adjusts the relative amounts of low-pass and high-pass signals appearing at the LP/HP mix output. You can move from pure low-pass (LP position on the control) via asymmetrical/symmetrical/asymmetrical notch to pure high-pass (HP position on the control)

Inputs/Outputs

• Audio In - Audio Input To Filter: The socket acting as the Audio Input for the filter. Patch the output of your sound source to this socket
• CV 1 - Cutoff Freq. CV Input: Voltage control input for the filter frequency. Works approximately to the 1V/Octave standard (like a VCO). Patching a modulation source into this socket will control the cutoff frequency of the filter via the voltage of your CV source. The sound colour changes according to the voltage put out vy your modulator
• CV 2 - Cutoff Freq. CV Input: The CV 2 input is another voltage control input for the filter. You can control the level of voltage of CV 2 using the corresponding attenuation control (CV 2), allowing you to adjust the intensity of the modulation effect on your filter
• BP Out - Band-Pass Filter Output: This is the output for your band-pass filtered signal
• LP/HP Out - Mixed LP/HP Filter Output: This is the output for your mixed high-pass/low-pass filtered signal
