Key Features
The Zynaptiq ORANGE VOCODER is a classic software plugin originally developed by Prosoniq in 1998. The Orange Vocoder features a complex but intelligible range of prominent attributes that develop a flexible workflow and recognisable sound within the real-time vocoder engine.
The Orange Vocoder operate a flexible carrier/modulator routing that can be sourced from the plug-in input, a side-chain input, and an integrated internal synthesizer that is highly capable of producing unusual or classic analogue sounds.
Zynaptiq's Orange Vocoder is a plugin with an incredible range; with eight different vocoder algorithms that cover the warmth of analogue modelled circuits up to eccentric digital cross-synthesis modes offer high levels of flexibility through a range of sonic and timbral qualities.

The Orange Vocoder features eight different vocoder algorithms produced through two different 24-band analogue emulations that offer a high level of adaptability to classic vocoder sounds in both linear and minimum phase.
To produce its range of vocoder sounds Zynaptic has implemented a collection of classic and state-of-the-art algorithms that cover sonic qualities of all sorts. ORANGE VOC 3 and Classic ORANGE offer a modern take on the ORANGE VOCODER algorithm as well as its digital counterpart from the original 1998 plugin.
By utilising wavelet transform mathematics through a series of multi-resolution modes the Orange Vocoder is capable of providing frequency-dependent time resolution and sounds that range from natural to synthetic.
Further character is injected into the Orange Vocoder through the Colorize feature. Colorize applies Orange's modulator phase response in addition to its frequency amplitude data that produces unique and unusual cross-synthesis effects.
Zynaptiq has packaged the Orange Vocoder with an integrated 32-voice analogue modelling synthesizer. Featuring gso oscillators with ring mod and hard sync, the choice between analogue emulation and sampled waveforms, four-pole low-pass filter for shaping waveforms, a warmth injection through a distortion circuit, dual LFOs and envelope follower that work together to produce a comprehensive and powerful synth engine.
The integrated synthesizer in Orange can easily be activated as a carrier or modulator input for the vocoder and played either through MIDI or the on-screen keyboard. Alternatively, the vocoder engine's carrier and modulator inputs can be sourced from an external input and a side chain input and swapped with the click of a switch; proving that flexibility is primary in the Orange vocoder.
Zynaptiq offers a series of features that further the sonic potentials and intelligibility of the voice transformation effects of the Orange vocoder for both in-depth development and reactive live performance.
A high-frequency pass-through circuit ensures that the subtle high-frequency nuances of your vocal modulations are sharp and clear to cut through your mix, while a voiced/unvoiced detector with a noise generator is used to capture and bolster high-frequency plosive vocalisations.
The Zynaptic Orange Vocoder essentially operates by decomposing the input signal through a bank of bandpass filters into narrow spectral slices; the carrier signal is tuned to these slices to produce that signature vocoder sound. Zynaptic has packaged Orange with "Filterbank freezing" and "Filterbank reverb" to develop this procedure with unique creative properties. For example, the filterbank reverb allows for the smoothing and blurring of the filterbank modulation, while the freeze function captures the current state of the filter bank and holds it.
Amongst the complex features of the Orange vocoding process is a range of high-quality yet understated features. An easy-to-use integrated hall reverb, a 10-band graphic equaliser with an analyser, a three-channel mixer for blending carrier and modulator with the vocoder's output, a stereo widening function, a random preset generator and more than 60 factory presets develop Zynaptiq's Orange Vocoder into a fully comprehensive unit.
