Boss Katana amps are generally seen as good amps amongst guitar players of all styles and genres. Their variety of effects and compatibility with the free Boss Tone Studio app are great features that help guitarists build their desired tone.
Yes, Boss Katana models are digital but feature 'tube logic' technology to emulate valve responsiveness. Their all-analogue class AB power amp functions in the same way as the power amp section of a classic valve amplifier. This amplifies the sound created in the preamp and adds to the overall tone.
If you’re looking for a compact, portable practice amp then the Katana Mini is a good choice. It has three different amp voicings and a tape-style delay. The Katana 50 MKII is also great for practicing with up to a 50-watt output, five amp voices, and 60 built-in effects.
The Katana 50 MKII has enough power for small venue gigs and can also be turned down for practice. It harnesses up to a 50-watt output through a 12inch speaker and is switchable right down to 0.5-watt. For an amp loud enough for larger venues, the 100 MK2 is the most suitable Katana model. It features an effects loop and comes in a 1x12 or 2x12 combo format, as well as a head. The Katana Artist MKII is also great for live shows featuring a special design Waza Speaker.
The Katana Air is fairly loud for such a compact amp. It has 2 x 3inch speakers with a 30-watt output (15-watt + 15-watt) when using an AC adapter or 20-watt (10-watt + 10-watt) when using alkaline batteries. This is more than enough power to practice playing electric guitar or listen to your music around the house.
