Key Features
The Tama S.L.P Limited 14 x 4.5'' G-Hickory Snare, Gloss Natural Elm is an aesthetically pleasing musical powerhouse. Its 12-ply construction - 10-ply Hickory with 2-plies of Elm on the outside - produce a distinct tone. Dense hickory is not only powerfully loud but also highly adaptable to tunings and playing styles. Two elm plies on the outside give the drum it's appealing aesthetic. They also add complexity to the tone and add a beautiful grain to be the envy of other drummers.
Finished in chrome die-cast hoops for a focused and moderate sustain, piccolo lugs to save space, and the quick-touch MCS70A snare strainer, this snare is ready to provide pop for any drummer looking for that quintessential Hip-Hop/R&B crack .

Although an unusual choice for a drum shell, hickory has distinct resonant properties that make it perfect for a drum this size. Producing a loud crack, the dense wood makes sure it's heard with a prominent mid-range. This frequency response makes it ideal for achieving a not-to-be-ignored pop. Paired with the relatively shallow depth of 4.5'', this snares tuning range gets accentuated even more.
Due to the depth of the drum, the MSL-SCP lugs are the ideal system for holding down the tuning. With rubber protecting the finish from metal contact and acting as a resonance-isolating buffer, the piccolo lugs enable a wide tuning range that can take the pressure of high pitched tension.
Sensitivity, volume and durability - the main components of snare wires can all be found here. With high sensitivity comes the articulate touch that is required on a snare. Medium volume means the sound of the snares won't over-power the shell, leading to a great balanced tone. Finally, the wires are made from carbon steel, a material that can keep on singing. A great snare wire that amplifies both tone and articulation.
The two plies of elm on the outside of the drum not only add a complimenting tonal complexity to the hickory but also create the aesthetic. The natural grain of the wood is eye-catching to say the least. It's for this reason that Tama simply glossed the outside of the drum, letting the natural shapes and patterns of the wood shine through. Who would want to cover this up?!
