The slim 6-ply shells are manufactured with Pearl's 'Superior Shell Technology' with overlapping scarf-joint seams and proprietary AcoustGlue. This clever glue fills every pore and dries to the exact consistency of the wood for optimum resonance. The plies are then formed in a high-temperature mold with a hydraulic press to produce perfect drum shells.
Maple has long been a favourite drum shell wood of both drum manufacturers and players. Its boosted low end and smooth mids and highs help it to sound well suited for just about any style of music. Because of this, you often find maple being used in very high-end kits and being used by some very well-respected players.
