Traditional Lauan shells

Since its introduction in the '60s, Lauan has been altered and improved to provide a throwback, vintage sound. Lauan comes from the Lauan tree in Southeast Asia and become infamous for making cheap drums with little to no credit. The reality of Lauan, however, is far from a cheap tonewood. It produces an immersive, warm response with a medium-short decay, sitting perfectly in the mix. And when paired with other vintage components, Lauan shells offer a solid foundation for the rhythm section.

Hardware that enhances

The SuperHoop IIs' triple-flanged design allows the Remo drumhead to vibrate as freely as possible, while also providing a great stick surface for rimshots and cross-sticks. But Pearl chose the thicker, 2.3mm variety which subtly dampens ringy overtones from the head to focus in on the magic beneath.

Likewise, the Battleship lugs reduce physical contact with the shell itself, minimising any restriction to its movement and maximising its beefy, full-bodied sound. The classic SR-017 snare strainer is simplicity itself, providing a smooth, no-nonsense action and world class control over your snare wire sensitivity. 45-Degree bearing edges

45-Degree bearing edges are a very common cut. They feature a sharp 1-ply thick edge which peaks close to the outside of the shell. These bearing edges produce more attack and sustain, resulting in a generally more-lively, 'modern' sound. The added attack and sustain are due to less of the drumhead film being in contact with the shell. Additionally, a sharp 45-degree edge also produces considerably more harmonic overtones, making the drum sound much brighter.
