Key Features
The Tama Jazz Master 14 x 4.5'' Peter Erskine Signature Snare is a hybrid snare drum built in collaboration with famous jazz drummer, Peter Erskine. This snare drum is constructed using four layers of spruce and two layers of maple, a combination that's guaranteed to deliver extremely focused sounds. This tone is further enhanced by the sound focus ring, specially fitted below the batter head to control overtones, and create a more focused, well-rounded tone.
The shallow 4.5'' shell depth offers an incredibly responsive feel whether you're playing soft ghost notes or playing at full force. This ensures that even the most subtle playing dynamics aren't washed out in the overall mix, perfect for jazz performances. This sensitivity is balanced by the 8-lug design, which allows for a low fundamental body of sound.

Peter Erskine is an American jazz drummer who started playing at the age of 4. A well-respected drum tutor and performer, Erskine is known by many for his work in jazz fusion groups 'Weather Report' and 'Steps Ahead'.
The Tama Jazz Master 14 x 4.5'' Peter Erskine Signature Snare features 4-ply spruce and 2 inner plies of maple to create a 6mm shell that provides an incredibly focused sound. The inner sound focus ring provides overtone control and creates an even more focused, well-balanced, and bright tone.
The inward curved 2.3mm steel hoop enhances the natural tone of the snare drum whilst offering greater sensitivity and control. These hoops also provide an incredibly easy tuning experience with exceptional precision and reliability. This means your drums will stay in tune each and every time you play.
The linear-drive strainer is designed to offer greater control of the lever adjustment arm, and more precise control over the strainers deployment motion. The strainer movement works in a true linear motion. Even if the strainer is engaged rapidly, you will not hear the typical "slap" of the snare wires hitting the bottom drumhead. This is perfect for quick timbre changes during performances and recordings.
To prevent the snare wires from loosening, this strainer also has a ratchet system on its tension adjustment mechanism. Single click adjustments offer a vertical pull of 0.083mm in wire motion, which allows for ultra-sensitive micro adjustments.
The redesigned snare wires provide a more crisp and sensitive sound – perfect for any jazz mix. With new materials, a customised plate shape, and a change to the wire coil pattern – these snare wires are finely tuned to provide the perfect jazz drum sound.
On each signature snare drum, a special sticker bearing the artist’s signature is placed on the inside of every shell. The artist signs each sticker by hand, one by one, adding a personal touch that makes each signature snare drum especially unique.
