With the Tama Star Walnut 22'' 4pc Shell Pack, every aspect of shell and hardware construction is considered. Every piece is designed to maximise resonance and tone. From the walnut shells to the carefully selected hardware, it's clear - sound comes first.
The walnut shells have a naturally EQ'd sound that has been praised by drummers for stage and studio use. They produce a thumpy low end with an equal amount of cut due to the enhanced low and high-end frequencies. But, it takes more than just shell material to produce such an exquisite sound. The Star Walnut features several innovations. Rounded bearing edges and minimal hardware design are both part of that considerate crafting process that ensures the Star Walnut always exceeds your expectations.
Please Note: Snare drum, hardware and cymbals are NOT included.

Walnut has long been favoured for its reliability and long-term stability for furniture. Tama has taken those characteristics and put them to work with the Tama Star Walnut. Tonally, the shells produce a warm, fat sound. But, there's also an enhanced high-end for cutting through and adding more 'pop' to make your grooves sing. The Japanese Chestnut models also feature outer plies of Japanese Chestnut, which creates a uniquely striking aesthetic for the most eye-catching performances.
Tama's walnut shells feature zinc die-cast hoops. These high-grade hoops provide greater tuning stability, while making the drum sound more focused by controlling overtones.
To maximise the sound potential from the shells, the Tama Star drums feature a more rounded bearing edge peak. This makes a big difference to the attack, because it provides more contact between the drumhead and shell. Tama also positioned the edge 3.5mm from the shell's outer surface to bring the drumhead and drum together even closer. This gives you the most responsive experience possible, giving you the satisfaction of every stroke - no matter how subtle.
Getting the most out of the shells has been pivotal to the Star Walnut design. After all, every piece of hardware attached to a shell affects the resonance and sound produced by the drums. One way to minimise this was to design the lugs for minimum shell contact. These feature an extremely low mass bridge construction, ensuring maximum resonance is obtainable.
The bass drum claw hooks follow the same principle. By simply ''floating'' on the bass drum hoops there is less interference with the shell sound. The decision to have an imprinted badge and small wooden air hole grommet further reduce the weight of material on the shell, thus improving the overall resonance and sound.
It's important that toms are mounted with careful consideration to minimise stress and strain on the shells and hoops. The Super Resonant Mounting System is designed to achieve that goal. Utilising three contact points, Tama were able to reduce the stress on the shell and hoop dramatically. This is due to the third point being as far as possible on the bottom hoop, meaning less support is required when setting your desired angle. There are also rubber contact points between the shell and mounting system to prevent the transference of vibrations to the tom stands.
The bass drum spurs and tom legs both adopt the same method of impact absorption. This is done by carefully designing the shape, angle, and size of the rubber feet. This allows for resonance from the drum to remain completely natural and unhindered. Both designs make your experience more comfortable and responsive when playing the drums.
Tama have often been at the forefront of hardware innovation, and by now you know the Star Series is at the pinnacle of that vision. Equipped to the Star-Cast Mounting System, Tama quick-lock tom brackets make setting up your toms easier than ever before. Once the drum is positioned, it saves your drum position without the need for separate memory locks. The quick-lock tom bracket also features rubber lining to isolate the drums and enhance resonance.
