There is a Music Man ceramic humbucker on-board the Sterling bass, which produces a huge, hot sound. Delivering a musical and harmonic tone, the ceramic humbucker is ideal for a range of styles with its rich articulation.
The 3-band active EQ allows for more control over the dynamics of the bass's tone with the three EQ control pots. With the standard volume control, the 3-band EQ is also configured with controls for treble, bass, and midrange to allow for tonal adjustments that will suit your playing style and to ensure that you have a fantastic tone before the sound even reaches your amplifier.
Redesigned with rounded body contours, the StingRay Special provides players with enhanced comfort and a sleek appearance. The ash body delivers bright tones with good resonance, and a sound that has plenty of twang. The ash tones are both crisp and articulate, with firm lows and snappy highs. This compact body provides a shape that is comfortable, and a pleasure to play.
Crafted with a select maple neck, the Sterling delivers a smooth action across the frets, and allows for easy movement across the maple fingerboard. Maple yields plenty of brightness All frets are hand-applied to exact specifications, ensuring that the Sterling has the highest quality of playability you would expect from this prestigious company.
Music Man (originally Tri-Sonix) was founded in 1971 by Forrest White and Tom Walker with the help of Leo Fender, who at the time was a silent partner due to a 10-year non-compete clause he was tied to. In 1974 when they officially became Music Man, the company produced its first product, an amplifier designed by Leo Fender and Tom Walker called the "Sixty Five" and a year later Leo Fender was named president of the company. It was in 1976 when Music Man started to produce guitars and basses in the form of the StingRay 1 Guitar and StingRay Bass and the company was later bought to Ernie Ball in 1984.
