Originally conceived by Gibson in 1958, the original Flying V didn't take off as expected, and it wasn't until blues guitarists such as Albert King and Dave Davies, drawn in by the unique character, revived the model and renewed popularity, resulting in a rebirth in the late 1960s. Since then has remained in regular production and has been a popular tool for guitarists including Jimi Hendrix, Billy Gibbons, Marc Bolan and James Hetfield to name a few.

Now you too can gain the iconic look thanks to this faithful recreation by Epiphone. It's a guitar born for the stage with a design that's classic, but still allows you to stand out from the crowd thanks to the glossy ebony finish, which brings an edge of distinction to the model. Pickups that fool vintage purists

Along with the standout visual design of the Flying V, Epiphone has worked meticulously on the design and sound of the pickups, so that you still gain the tones that are synonymous with the original Gibson powerhouse. Epiphone's ProBucker humbuckers are a true marvel that has even got the backing of luthiers who are experts in models from the '50s and '60s, thanks to their reliance and accurate emulation of the tone that can be gained from the P.A.F pickups in Gibson's original model.

Rich, rumbling lows and clear, crisp highs can be achieved in an instant thanks to the ProBuckers, and with central body pickup positioning and set neck, you achieve a complete resonant response from the mahogany body and neck.

Comfortable playability for stage and studio

When playing the guitar you want something that is comfortable to play and won't leave you feeling fatigued after long sessions in the studio or at the end of the night when you're set is just about wrapped up. Well, Epiphone has designed the Flying V with comfort as a must. Firstly, the neck profile is C-Shaped, and being fairly shallow and more oval-shaped, it allows for a wider reach that will suit the majority of players, meaning you can reach the low and high regions of the neck with ease, negating any strain on your hands or fingers.

Also, the Epiphone Flying V features a rolled neck, meaning it will feel a lot more ”played in”, so you will be comfortable right from the get-go; a must for beginners and seasoned pros alike. Finally, an Indian laurel fingerboard provides stability and fast action so you can move around the neck effortlessly. Not too dissimilar to rosewood, laurel will often have far more exaggerated graining that not only looks the part, but is far more sustainable, serving as a benefit to the planet.
