Key Features
Prog heads unite. What do you get the guitarist who wants everything? You get them the Ibanez PWM20 Paul Waggoner. Listen to Paul's playing in Between the Buried and Me, and you'll understand why. From the heaviest metal chugs, to twinkling, jazzy cleans, the PWM20's Mojotone PW Hornet pickups were specially designed by Paul to provide full-bodied sound and pristine clarity. Engage the coil-tap switch for a lower, vintage-style output level, and you've got just about every tone you could ever need in easy reach.
Playability is top priority. The PWM20's sleek, maple/bubinga neck, and classic, rosewood fingerboard impart the Paul Waggoner signature model with a warm, well-rounded response. Upper-register lead parts are a breeze, thanks to the ergonomic, double-cutaway body shape, and the double-locking Edge-Zero II tremolo system means you can bend, squeal and divebomb to your heart's content, with total tuning confidence. An eye-catching, White Ash Open Pore finish completes a guitar that is truly a master of all trades.

Pickups for every occasion. When Paul Waggoner designs a product, he doesn't do things by halves. Just as with the PWM20 itself, Paul worked closely with Mojotone's engineers to create a pickup set that met his every need. The result was the PW Hornet, and the attention to detail in its design is truly stunning.
Full-force shred. Riffs with twang and sizzle. Full-bodied power chords. For rock and metal, the Hornet bridge humbucker is unbeatable. With different pole piece metals for the upper and lower strings, its output is precisely tuned for an equally crushing tone from every string. Switch to the neck pickup for smooth, characterful solos and instantly usable, dazzling cleans. With a separate coil-tap switch included too, the range of the PWM20's sonic palette is simply breathtaking.
/Speed and comfort. The PWM20's maple neck is cut to Ibanez's Wizard III neck style, which provides high-end playability, optimised for lead guitarists. The thin nature of the neck aids seamlessly swift and nimble guitar runs whilst retaining enough substance to ensure a thick and full resonance when playing rhythm patterns and chords. The satin-smooth maple itself provides excellent sustain, while the rosewood fretboard and jumbo frets make for clean chord changes and surgical sweep-picking - all with a warm, natural tone.
Progressive heritage. Waggoner's guitar style is about as versatile as it gets. All-out riffing leads seamlessly into soulful leads, with a side order of spiky, clean, jazz licks and effects-laden soundscapes. His work with Between the Buried and Me focuses on the heavier side of things, clearly informed by prog luminaries like Dream Theater's John Petrucci. But in its quieter moments, the influence of Pat Metheney's jazz stylings is present too. One thing that connects all these players is a refusal to think inside the box, and Paul's approach to designing the PWM20 was no different.
