A new future for overdrive
It is a preamp, a boost, a cocked-wah - it's a lot of things! But it can also transcend those more traditional tones and take you to somewhere new, especially when you add an expression pedal and take control of the mids manually.
The Logan has up to 25dB of headroom available, making it a very good preamp. For recording guitarists that use cab simulation, this simply becomes your amp in a tiny box!
This is a pedal that doesn’t colour your tone - it extends it. If you are a player for whom dynamics are of the utmost importance, then you should look no further. This has been a long time in development and the attention to each sonic detail is spectacular. The reach of this project is large, but it excels in its variety of uses from ‘clean boost’ to an all-out aggressive roar of singing sustain – this wasn’t made to disappoint.
Powerful and adaptable EQ
The EQ has 15dB of boost or cut for the bass and treble, so this pedal can (if you want it to) completely alter your original signal. But things really get interesting with the foot-switchable mid control. The mid-range of this pedal can be placed before the main gain stage or after it (pre/post). In the ‘post’ position, you get added volume, working as a boost in those specific frequencies which is perfect at permeating a mix - making sure your solos are heard. In the ‘pre’ mode, you'll get added gain in your signal, creating more distortion in the mid-range, essentially turning it into another gain stage for a massive array of sounds.
Secret trim pots
The Logan boasts a number of unique ways for you to control your pedal. First, you will see a hole in the base plate, giving you access to a trim pot. This sets the ‘bandwidth’ (Q) of the mid-range. Turning it left broadens the peak, giving a smoother, fatter tone. Dialled completely to the right you get a resonant peak, and used in conjunction with an external expression pedal it will give you some wild wah tones or, depending on your speed, some cool phaser sounds.
By removing the base plate you get access to another trim pot that controls the wet/dry with your clean signal which opens its usefulness far beyond the guitar. Having control over the wet/dry mix lets you integrate this pedal into bass rigs but also lets you experiment with vocals, synths, or anything with a ¼’’ jack - this really is a jack of all trades distortion that excels in its variety.
