The 'Shape-Shift' buttons introduce an additional 6db of what Lee terms 'Schmegilka', the secret sauce to his kinetic sounds. Alongside that is a 'Tight' control to sharpen the definition of your distortion to help your bass sit comfortably in a mix. People were in such a Rush to get their hands on the limited edition MP40 that it sold out almost immediately! Fortunately, Tech 21 have revived that sought after circuit and reintroduced it as the “YYZ Shape-Shifter”, which grants you the same sweet tones in a standard (but still incredibly cool) finish.
Lee’s favourite bass tones are packed into this compact box and are easily selectable through the versatile “Mix” control. From the left side it will set a completely clean and crisp studio-level tone, but as you push it further to the right it’ll steadily increase the drive to evoke classic dirty bass tube amps with a thunderous growl.
Alongside the Mix setting are a three band EQ, Drive, and Master volume controls to easily sculpt the sound. The manual covers a few recognisable sample profiles to demonstrate just how versatile the Shape-Shifter is!
Put a Geddy Lee style kick into your signal. The YYZ Shape-Shifter features two big buttons to add extra oomph to your sound, alongside a foot switchable boost. The Shape-Shifter button introduces an extra 6db of Lee’s personal “Schmegilka” sound, which he calls an “indefinable thing of awesomeness”, and the Tight button slims out your distortion to add focus and definition to the sound.
And for those times you need your sound to pack a punch, the Boost control can add up to 12db of gain to make the audience rumble!
As the name suggests, SansAmp lets you perform without the need of a traditional amplifier, simply hook up to a power amp and speakers and you’re good to go!
