Thanks to a pair of powerful custom V7 pickups, you are provided with an incredible tonal range. Designed with alnico V magnets, the 734A delivers a fat, penetrating tone which perfectly complements the alder/maple/alder body. These organic, well-defined pickups have been carefully selected for the 700 series, ensuring players receive a uniquely versatile performance with the classic BB tone.
Yamaha’s BB 700 series of bass guitars also comes equipped with powerful active/passive circuits, specially tuned to offer fine tonal control and extreme flexibility. Featuring a pickup balancer, active/passive switch, and 3-band EQ, you can dial in incredibly crisp tones and enhance the bass' tonal properties for the ultimate experience.
The BB 734A's body has been constructed from a unique blend of maple and alder, which increases the overall stiffness for an accentuated midrange to cut through dense mixes. The dense maple centre provides a more uniform transmission of vibrations between the body and neck than traditional 1-piece bodies, delivering an unparalleled resonance and sustain. The alder top and bottom provides the bass with a lusciously smooth, deep bass tone, beefing up the midrange while adding a slight sizzle to the high end.
The maple/mahogany combination of the neck delivers incredible stability, while offering the best of both tonewoods for a bright, mellow sound. It has been designed with an incredibly thin profile, improving its playability and feel to suit modern and traditional players. Coupled with a rosewood fingerboard, the 3 woods provide the bass with a complex high end and a smooth playing experience. Its neck is attached with a 6-bolt miter neck joint, offering a more efficient transfer of string vibration thought the body than conventional bolt-on joints. The joint holds the neck closer to the body to provide a tighter hold and improving sustain and resonance.
The bass’ vintage plus bridge enhances the overall sustain and resonance of the strings by incorporation a unique ‘diagonal body through stringing’. This is achieved by angling the strings at the saddle to pass through the body at a 45-degree angle, placing less stress on the strings as opposed to the more traditional vertical stringing. This method allows the bridge to transfer the string vibrations to the body reliably and efficiently. The vintage plus bridge also allows the strings to be attached to the tail end and features an offset saddle for the low B string.
