The Kawai CA401 Digital Piano is Kawai's latest addition to their premium CA range. Boasting the same Grand Feel Compact wooden keyboard action from previous models, it's been upgraded. While the CA401 still uses the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX Concert Grand as the basis for its sound engine, there is a new SK-EX Competition Grand sound recorded from the player's perspective. The control panel and power supply have also been redesigned with the aim of making your experience as good as possible.

The CA401 utilises Kawai's Grand Feel Compact keyboard action. This draws upon 90 years of piano craftsmanship to provide an acoustic playing experience on a digital instrument. All of the 88 keys are crafted from long pieces of wood with textured Ivory Touch key surfaces. Similarly to an acoustic grand, each key rests on a balance pin and moves with a smooth seesaw-like motion. Thanks to their length, the keys are evenly balanced at all times
For the most realistic sensation available, Grand Feel Compact action also features grade-weighted hammers, bass region counterweights, and let-off simulation. There is even a triple-sensor key detection system which enables rapidly repeated notes (such as trills) to be performed without any unnatural break in the sound.
To ensure you have the best possible experience, the sounds of the SK-EX and EX have been used to create the CA401 sound. Unlike other piano manufacturers, Kawai records each note individually to preserve the grand pianos' unique harmonic character. This way, you always get an accurate representation of the original instruments. The CA401 differs from previous Kawai models as this piano features the recordings from the perspective of the player, giving you the most realistic tone possible.
But the CA49 doesn't just come with piano sounds. It includes 19 high-quality tones from all over the world, including electric pianos, organs, strings, choirs, and synths. For extra experimentation, it features Dual playing mode enabling you to play two different sounds at the same time, such as a piano and strings. The CA401 even includes a Four Hands mode which divides the keyboard into two separate keyboards. This is perfect for practising with a teacher or a friend!
While Bluetooth MIDI has been an option with previous CA models, the CA401 also has Bluetooth Audio Connectivity for wireless audio playback from smart devices. Both MIDI and Audio Bluetooth are version 5 for the best sound quality when paired. Whether you're wanting to play along or stream music from your piano's speakers, the Kawai CA401 offers ultra-low latency and better reliability when compared to other instruments
Along with a new default sound, the CA401 had an upgraded aesthetic. Control panels have been updated for a more tactile feel as well as a modernised look. Larger and flatter, the button is more intuitive and can be used quickly and easily. An OLED display is clear while remaining unintrusive and preserves the upright-style cabinet which has longer arms and a deeper body than previous models. This helps to further recess the pedals, helping you get the most comfortable playing position. Kawai CA401s also come with a new power adaptor the PS-154 reduces noise by up to 50 when compared to previous models.
Kawai pianos come complete with a free 3-month trial of Skoove, Tomplay, and a free introductory course with Zapiano. These apps are a great way to improve your playing with access to lessons, sheet music, and interactive feedback, so you can take your playing to the next level. Simply register your new Kawai piano on the Kawai website to claim your trials and find out more.
