Key Features
The benchmark in near-field monitoring for 15 years. Meet the Genelec 8020D Compact 2-way Active Monitor. This premium quality monitor is the latest revision of the iconic 8020 speaker. The D model provides you with the ability to deliver 4dB higher sound pressure levels than earlier 8020 models. With a Class D amplification system, the 8020D will remain silent when in use and will not overheat.

ISS (Intelligent Signal Sensing) Technology was developed by Genelec in early 2013, designed to track the signal input of the loudspeaker and detect if it is in use. If the ISS circuitry finds that the speaker is not in use for a certain period of time it will automatically switch to a low-power sleep state, consuming less than 0.5 watts. This is highly useful when it comes to studios and home studios as it minimises power usage while optimising performance value. The loudspeaker will immediately turn itself back on again once it detects an input signal, saving you power and money in the long run. If you wish to disable this feature you can simply turn on the 'ISS Disable' switch located on the rear panel of the monitor.
The Genelec 8020D features two powered amplifiers for optimised performance value. The bi-amplified design ensures optimal audio performance and fidelity, by assigning each of the two frequency bands with their own individual amplifier. This helps to optimise the audio fidelity and performance, ensuring you hear every nuance of the audio as it was intended. The amplifiers are designed to power both the woofer and tweeter individually.
The 8020D also features an active crossover design allowing for a frequency response independent of any dynamic changes in the driver's electrical characteristics or the drive level, with increased flexibility and precision to adjust and fine tune each output frequency response for the drivers used. Each driver has its own signal processing and power amplifier to isolate each driver from the drive signals handled by the drivers, reducing inter-modulation distortion and over driving problems.
You also have the ability to compensate for sensitivity variations between drivers, as well as for the frequency and phase response anomalies associated with a driver's characteristics within the intended pass-band.
The 8020D is ideal for critical audio production environments thanks to its ability to remain reliable and functional thanks to its protection circuitry. This circuitry design prevents driver failures by detecting signal levels, and automatically reducing the level should any sudden peaks or constant too-high levels arise.
This circuitry does not affect the sound quality in any way, but prevents inadequate input signals from causing damage. With improved system reliability, the 8020D enables you to maximise your system's output sound level to get the best performance.
Any electrical items in your order may have been designed to work with a 240V circuit, using a United Kingdom G type plug connection or a 220V circuit, using an EU plug connection. An adapter or transformer may be required for these items to work properly and safely in your country. Some items work with a range of voltages, or have a switchable voltage control built in.
