Cardioid is excellent for delivering a tight-focused sound, whilst providing excellent off-axis rejection of around -6dB of unwanted noise and ambience. Achieving great sounds with the Mini is as simple as positioning the microphone directly in front of the source and pressing record, it'll take care of the rest! This is a great polar pattern to rely on when recording live performances, either on-stage, or, in-the-studio.
Recording loud sources?
No problem! The Mini boasts a three-stage pad (0,-10dB, -20dB) that allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the capsule when capturing sources with high SPLs (Sound Pressure Levels). You'll find this particularly useful for minimising risks of clipping and distortion when close mic'ing kick drums, amplifiers, dynamic vocalists. MXL have thought of everything to guarantee you the finest experience possible.
